How much does it cost to install a Level 2 EV charger or Tesla Wall Connector at home in Texas? Pricing, panel requirements, permits and what to ask your electrician.
Electric vehicles are everywhere in Texas now, and the first question every new owner asks is the same: what does a home EV charger installation actually cost?
| Install type | Typical cost (labor + materials) |
|---|---|
| NEMA 14-50 outlet near the panel | $450–$900 |
| Level 2 hardwired charger, same wall as panel | $700–$1,400 |
| Tesla Wall Connector, 30–60 ft run | $1,000–$2,200 |
| Detached garage or long conduit run | $1,800–$3,500 |
| Panel upgrade required | add $1,800–$4,500 |
Distance from the panel, whether the run is through finished walls or exposed, the amperage (40A vs 60A), and whether your panel has capacity. A load calculation tells us quickly whether you need a panel upgrade.
Level 1 (a normal 120V outlet) adds about 4 miles of range per hour. Level 2 on a 50 amp circuit adds 25–40 miles per hour — a full charge overnight.
Most Texas cities require a permit for a new 240V circuit. We handle the permit and inspection for every install.
Plug-in (NEMA 14-50) is flexible if you move; hardwired allows higher amperage and is required by some chargers at 48A+.
